Similar to bad weather swept through the north-west the night before, City blew Manchester United away at the Etihad. It was a convincing 3-0 victory for their manager's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that firmly established their title credentials as they strengthened their position at the WSL pinnacle.
Successive Losses for Manchester United
This outcome marked back-to-back WSL losses for the United manager's side for the maiden instance since May 2024, leaving them a significant margin off the table toppers with their title hopes hanging by a thread.
Manchester United's capacity to juggle domestic and continental football with a thin team has been a frequently analyzed issue since they secured entry to the European competition. Former City player Park came nearest, striking the woodwork, but the away team were offensively poor and were unable to record a solitary shot on goal.
The home side, meanwhile, could have increased their cushion when a superb Vivianne Miedema long ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fluff her lines but it did not affect the result to the hosts. After failing to beat any team who placed above them in the prior term, City's side now have successes against the Gunners and United to position them in a commanding position after nine matches.
