The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
